Support

A price region identified from prior reactions or a stated rule as a candidate for buying interest or resistance to a decline. It guarantees no rebound and does not reveal global remaining orders. Define tolerance, quote side and break timing; becoming resistance after a break is possible rather than inevitable.
Example. Previously confirmed EUR/USD lows cluster at 1.0798–1.0802 under the rule’s tolerance. That zone is marked before the next test. A later Bid low of 1.0795 crosses it, while a Close of 1.0804 returns above. An intrabar-break rule and a close-break rule classify this event differently.

Candidate buying interest

Support identifies a reference region from past reactions or a defined construction. It does not show all remaining buying orders or oblige a rebound. A zone makes tolerance explicit; its width should follow the method rather than a universal pip amount. Different timeframes and sources can identify different references.

Timing and quote side

Specify price series, swing availability and whether crossing or closing is required. A chart built from Bid cannot reconstruct every Ask-triggered event. A break below support may continue, reverse or consolidate. The common idea of former support becoming resistance is another testable pattern, not an automatic consequence of any crossing.

Using the zone

A strategy can use support for an entry hypothesis, stop reference or short-position target. A stop beyond it does not guarantee execution at that price. Include actual entry, exit, costs and failed tests. Repeated historical reactions alone do not establish a profitable future rule; preserve the zone originally available instead of shifting it to fit each later outcome.

FAQ

Does support guarantee a rebound?
No. It identifies a candidate reference under a specified method.
Can intrabar and close-based breaks disagree?
Yes. A bar can cross the zone and still close above it.
