Execution & tools

Market order

An instruction to buy or sell at currently available prices under the broker’s execution rules. It prioritises execution over a specified price limit, but the displayed quote, full quantity and successful execution are not guaranteed.
Example. A buy for 0.20 lot is filled as 0.10 lot at 1.1000 and 0.10 at 1.1002. Its average price is 1.1001, not 1.1000. Whether partial execution is permitted depends on the fill policy.

Order, deal and position

Submitting an order is not the same as receiving a fill. A filled order may create several deals, which can open, reduce or reverse a position. Check the confirmed size and price before assuming the intended exposure exists.

Common mistake

An order can be rejected or not fully filled because of margin, trading restrictions, market availability or its fill policy. A market order is not a guaranteed-price order.

Apply it

Read the instrument’s execution mode and handling of partial fills. Use a limit order when a price boundary is required, while accepting that it may not execute. MetaTrader 5 execution concepts.

FAQ

Does submitting a market order guarantee full execution?

No. Check confirmed fills, supported fill policy and any rejection or remaining quantity.

Is the displayed price the guaranteed average fill?

No. Several fills and changing quotes can produce a different quantity-weighted execution price.
