Oscillator
Scale and reference
RSI and stochastic have fixed ranges; Williams %R runs from −100 to zero. MACD and CCI are not bounded by a fixed band. Zero, the scale midpoint and interpretive thresholds are distinct reference points. Read them alongside the formula, period and data source rather than compare raw numbers across indicators.
Extreme readings
Overbought commonly names a scale region, not an obligation for price to decline. A rising trend can sustain high readings and a falling trend low ones. Threshold re-entry, crossovers and divergence form separate rule variants with different information timing and event counts. A regime filter also needs evaluation rather than being assumed to solve the problem.
Avoid adding apparent confirmations
Several oscillators can express related information from the same history. More agreeing readings do not automatically multiply success probability. Before adding a tool, state its distinct role and compare the complete variant against a simpler baseline. Preserve costs and validation outside parameter selection; attractive agreement on a finished chart is insufficient.
