Market participants

Liquidity Provider

A participant supplying executable prices or trading interest to a venue, broker or counterparty. Providers may be banks or non-bank firms. Available liquidity depends on size, price, credit relationships and market conditions; access to several providers does not guarantee a fill at the displayed price.
Example.

A provider hypothetically quotes 1.1000/1.1002 USD/EUR for EUR 100,000, while the broker receives a EUR 300,000 order. A small-size quote does not guarantee execution of the entire larger order; other providers, levels or partial fills may be needed.

Price and available quantity

Liquidity is conditional on size, time and counterparty access. Firm quotes and last-look offers have different rules. A best price without quantity does not describe total implementation cost.

Bank and non-bank providers

Different participants supply liquidity under their own limits and models. An aggregator combines offers without removing rejection, delay or credit-access risk.

Verifying execution

Compare reference prices, timing, fill ratios, slippage and costs at similar sizes. A broker's marketing list of familiar names does not prove every order was routed to one of them.

FAQ

Do multiple LPs guarantee no slippage?

No. Quotes may disappear or cover another size, and aggregation has its own delays and rules.

Is an LP always a bank?

No. Suitable non-bank firms can also provide liquidity.
