Retail Client
An individual trades actively for several years but remains classified as retail. Experience, trading frequency or a professional account label does not independently change legal category. Classification and any change follow the relevant framework and firm procedure.
A legal category
Under MiFID II, a retail client is a client who is not professional. Other regimes have their own definitions. Classification can refer to a service or product, so read its actual contractual scope.
Product-specific safeguards
For CFDs covered by national intervention, leverage caps, margin close-out and negative-balance protection may apply. These do not insure capital, stop prices or every other product.
Informed reclassification
Opting up requires assessment and formalities, not just a wish for higher leverage. Compare lost rights, counterparty terms and possible liability beforehand. Jurisdictions do not provide identical safeguards.

FAQ
Does retail mean inexperienced?
No. It is a regulatory category rather than a judgment about every individual's experience.
Does retail protection prevent losing the whole deposit?
No. Covered CFDs can still cause loss of all funds in the protected account.
