Regulation & safety

ASIC

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission, supervising specified Australian financial services and markets. An AFSL authorises a particular entity and scope. Australian retail CFDs are subject to product-intervention safeguards, but ASIC authorisation is not an EU passport or automatic compensation guarantee. Verify the contracting entity, status and permissions in official records.
Example.

A brand advertises ASIC authorisation, but the agreement names another group company. Assess that company and service, not the brand's logo. EU residence alone does not settle Australian coverage or whether the offer is lawful in the client's country.

Authority and licence scope

ASIC oversees specified Australian services and participants. Verify the entity, AFSL number, status and permissions in official records. Not every registration number authorises every investment service.

Australian retail CFDs

The intervention order introduced retail CFD restrictions from 2021, including leverage and negative-balance safeguards. Its extension to 23 May 2027 confirms that instrument's continuation as checked on 11 October 2026. Verify product and client category.

Cross-border services

Australian authorisation is not an EU MiFID passport. Home-country requirements and the contracting group entity require separate review. Do not assume every EU customer's relationship with an ASIC group must be offshore.

FAQ

Does ASIC authorisation confer EU protections?

Not by itself. EU permissions and protection systems are separate.

Does high leverage prove an Australian account?

No. It can involve another category or entity; check the agreement and applicable rules.
