Strategies & styles

Day trading

A style in which positions are closed within the defined trading day, without a planned carry into the next session. It does not prescribe a trade count. Being flat during a break removes the position's subsequent exposure, but not intraday gaps or automatically all financing charges: the provider's charging cut-off matters.
Example. Before costs, a hypothetical USD 25,000 account and a selected 0.75% budget give USD 187.50 of planned risk. A 25-pip stop and USD 10 per pip per standard EUR/USD lot imply 0.75 lot. Three setups and a −2R daily limit are illustrative plan rules, not industry standards. Closing before a break removes the position's subsequent exposure, but trading within one day does not itself exclude a financing cut-off or an intraday gap.

The trading day is a rule

Specify timezone, cut-off and partial-fill handling. A trading day need not coincide with local midnight. If the plan requires no exposure after a particular time, submitting a closing order is insufficient: reconcile positions and pending orders to confirm the result.

Budget across decisions

Per-entry risk, aggregate open risk and daily net P&L are different quantities. Two losses do not automatically exhaust every session limit; define the percentage base and open P&L treatment. Trades on several correlated pairs can multiply exposure to the same factor.

Execution and review

A short horizon requires realistic costs relative to the target. Record rejected signals and reasons, and evaluate compliance separately from P&L. Closing before a break ends subsequent position exposure but does not remove costs or losses already incurred.

FAQ

Should a beginner choose day trading or scalping?
Compare time requirements, the pace of decisions, costs and the ability to test the rules. Neither style is universally best or supplies an edge to beginners.
How many trades per day are too many?
Compare the count with rules defined in advance and your constraints. Turnover or a fixed number of trades alone does not describe a strategy's quality.
Does avoiding overnight positions create a tax advantage?
Holding time alone does not determine tax classification. Check the instrument and the nature of the activity under the relevant jurisdiction. Financing depends on its charging cut-off, not only on the calendar dates of entry and exit.
