Fundamental analysis
Hypothetically, economy A grows 2% against a 1% expectation, while B grows 3% against a 4% expectation. A surprised positively and B negatively. The headline levels alone cannot determine a pair's direction; revisions and expected policy paths also matter.
Relative assessment
For each currency, map growth, inflation, policy response and risks. Assess differences and prior pricing. Strong data need not strengthen a currency if financial risks increase or the other economy changes expectations more.
Horizon and scenarios
Separate long-term valuation from the initial release reaction. Define a base case, alternative and information that would invalidate assumptions. A valuation model does not specify exactly when a rate returns to estimated fair value.
From information to a trade
Source, release time, consensus and revisions must be identifiable. Entry rules, costs and exposure limits are a separate step. An economically sound narrative can lose money with poor sizing or execution.

FAQ
Does fundamental analysis exclude charts?
No. Charts may assist execution and risk management; they do not replace reliable macroeconomic sources.
Are strong data enough to buy a currency?
No. Expectations, the other currency, horizon and a risk-management rule are also needed.
